Something to look forward to!
If we think about it, it is rather strange that we look forward to Christmas but as a celebration of a past event. The ancient prophecies in the Word look forward to a time that was to come so the point is, should we not also be doing the same? It is good to celebrate the LordŐs advent 2000 years ago, but there is a problem if we only look back and not at the same time forward to our own experience of the LordŐs coming into our lives.
We have recently been looking at the fact that the New Christianity is a religion or form of spirituality that is meant to be transcending and transforming. in other words, its function is to enable us to rise above selfish and worldly loves and to become a new loving and wise person. It focuses on bringing us into an experience of God within. ŇBehold the tabernacle of God is with menÓ, Rev 21:3 If we focus solely on the past the event is outside of our experience!
By coming into the world and thus Immanuel, 'God with us', the Lord established the power and means for us to become a new and better person. Now the Lord wants to come into the world or life of each one of us, to save us from the thoughts, feelings and actions that damage our relationships and our real happiness and usefulness. The message of Christmas is that we can indeed look forward to better times if the Lord, and in particular His truth is received and lived by.
